The 71st Annual Conference of the American Baptist Women of Colorado met in Denver, CO at Calvary Baptist Church. Our Theme was “Come to the Edge as we Break the Chains”. Lauran Bethel with her personal stories of working with the women and girls who are being sexually trafficked made us very aware of the heartache and helplessness of being used. Rev. Mary Hulst directed our thoughts in three Bible studies about women in the Bible. We felt as if we were there with these women as she spoke. Alicia Luquin (AB Women’s Ministries Coordinator Western Section) shared her work with us and then led a very meaningful installation of officers, with a hands-on blessing for each one in the circle. We were enlightened to hear of the mission work in the Bahamas by Estela Schweissing. We enjoyed singing with Marj Musil and Jessica Fischer. Thank you musicians, both voice and instrumental, for the delightful special music throughout the weekend.
We had a total of 103 in attendance. Thank you to the women at Calvary and all those behind the scenes who worked to make it a successful weekend. You are wonderful people and are very much appreciated. Thank you to the women throughout Colorado who lovingly made colorful chains and center pieces as decorations. The chains were broken over and over again to symbolize the theme “Break the Chains”.
Our January 2008 Winter Retreat was held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs. Virginia Holmstrom (National AB Women’s Executive Director) led us as we spent a “Weekend Away with Jesus”. We enjoyed Martha Lee Lowe leading the music. The Franciscan Retreat Center is at the edge of Colorado Springs. However, it is a peaceful getaway. We came home relaxed, refreshed, renewed and ready to take on the world.
The 2009 Winter Retreat will be held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs January 16-18th. Our speaker will be Teri Simpkins, President of National AB Women’s Ministries. Come prepared to relax and enjoy a special weekend of renewal.
Our 2009 Conference will be held in Grand Junction, June 12-14th. Join us as we enjoy good fellowship and develop a deeper relationship with God.
We look forward to hosting the Friday night dinner at The Gathering in October.
