The highlight of the year for our wild women of Wyoming is always our June conference. This year our conference was held in Laramie, WY with a roundup theme. The ladies of First Baptist Church in Laramie did a wonderful job, planning some very interesting workshops, creative activities, and worship times. Our speakers, Estela Schweissing, missionary to Bahamas and Rakmi Shaiza, seminary student from India gave us interesting insights into the work they are doing in the name of Jesus. These two ministries will be shared as our conference project for 2008-2009. Colorado president, Yvonne Whisenhunt shared with us a PowerPoint presentation about our national project “Breaking the Chains”. During our conference, and book sale, funds were collected for Love Gift, Murrow Children’s Home (2007-2008 conference project), conference expenses, and “Break the Chains”. Meeting place for 2009 conference is to be announced later.
Our ladies continue to regularly work for and support the yearly White Cross goals, collect Campbell’s labels for Murrow Home to use for educational and needed items, our nationally appointed special interest missionaries, Mabel Bolle Scholarship Fund (sent to a seminary student in Nicaragua this year), missionary refit fund, and give to needs for our national office. In addition, each church group has specific needs in their communities that they reach out to help.
We keep in contact with each other through our newsletter, the Baptistar, which is capably managed on-line by our editor, Jenita Carlton and our regional communication specialist, Jessica Fischer.
We appreciate the budget assistance given us yearly by our regional representatives which allows us to send our president to our national conference each year. The information she receives is invaluable to us and our programs, and helps her to be a part of the “big picture” which is in contrast to the small, sometimes struggling nature of our ladies’ groups.
We also appreciate the on-line resources that are available to our members and officers because of the efforts of our national officers. They keep us informed, assist us with local programming and studies and encourage us with their love, prayers and expertise. We have regular “blogs”, a new reading program (She Reads) with special discounts for books, a regular newsletter (Leader’s Reader) and links to both National and International Ministries.
We welcome Helen Schindler from Bethel Baptist Church of Casper as our new president. Please pray for her and for each of our churches as the ladies reach out to each other and their communities to share the love of Christ.
