Women Impacting the World…..in and through Missions

The 72nd Annual Conference of the American Baptist Women of Colorado met in June at First Baptist Church, Grand Junction. Our Theme was “Come to the Edge…And Beyond. Jan DeWitt, as our Guest Speaker, challenged and inspired us as she spoke in her personal style. As always, she was a blessing to all of us.

Kristy Engel, as Guest Missionary, shared her experiences and joy in working with the people in the Dominican Republic. Kristy uses her dog, Kobe, to teach hygiene to the children. We were inspired by several stories of rescuing very needy people who had been abandoned by the local people. Kristy glows with love for her work.

We were blessed by the people of First Baptist, Grand Junction. With their unfailing hospitality. With their sharing of homes and church facilities. With sharing their wonderful cooks. One of the workshops was touring the Colorado National Monument. This is a spectacular drive and was enjoyed by all. Several workshops were offered and well attended.

Thank you to all the musicians. We were especially blessed with the special music presented throughout the weekend.

The 2009 Winter Retreat was held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs with Teri Simpkins as our speaker. Her personal story and our small group discussion time was inspiring to us all. This is a special time of spiritual renewal, rest and relaxation.

The 2010 Winter Retreat will be held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs January 19-21st. Our speaker will be Terry Myers, Missionary to Bulgaria. Come prepared to relax and enjoy a special weekend of renewal.

We are particularly excited about the success of our National AB Women’s Ministries National Project – “Break the Chains. At this writing $402,234.94 has been donated to “Break the Chains”. The goal was $250,000. Our women throughout the Region have participated in this project. Visit http://www.abwmbreakthechains.org/ for the latest updates.

We invite all women and men to join us for the AB Women’s Ministries Dinner Friday evening at the Annual Gathering in October. Terry and Tom Myers will be our guest speakers.

Many Blessings,
Yvonne Whisenhunt, President
