The 73rd Annual Conference of the American Baptist Women of Colorado met in June at First Baptist Church, Sterling. Our Theme was “Women…Destined for God’s Purpose”. Vickie Goff, of National Ministries, was our main speaker. Vickie reminded us of our rich heritage as American Baptist Women. We have truly been on the cutting edge with many of our “programs”. The women enjoyed her workshop on “Going Green” with many helpful ideas. Vickie’s parents, son and girlfriend were able to worship with us Sunday morning. It was a fitting end to a very special weekend to worship in the Historic Church, Overland Trail Museum.
Friday evening was particularly memorable as the power went out in the middle of dinner. Ray Schellinger, our Guest Missionary, saved the day by sharing his experiences at Deborah’s House by candlelight. It was a perfect way to hear his message.
We were blessed by the people of First Baptist, Sterling. With their unfailing hospitality. With their sharing of homes and church facilities. With sharing their wonderful cooks. “Southern” was the food and decorations theme. Thank you, Sterling cooks, for sharing your Southern recipes. It was a new experience for many.
Thank you to all the musicians. We were especially blessed with the special music presented throughout the weekend.
The 2010 Winter Retreat was held at the Franciscan Retreat Center in Colorado Springs. Our weekend theme was “Mission in Your Corner of the World”. Jody James shared her experiences traveling in the Holy Land. Terry Myers helped us think about how we share Christ when we are traveling or at home. Bernice Xia touched our hearts as she shared her need to reach the people of Central China. Massages and making White Cross bandages for Haiti were highlights of the weekend.
