About Us

The American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains is an association of churches that was formed out of the missionary work of the American Baptist Home Mission Society in Colorado and Wyoming.  Through the years the ministry transitioned from the planting of Sunday schools and churches to the support of those churches and the development of mission and ministry on their behalf, such as the former Curtis Park Neighborhood Center, purchase and development of camps and conference center and sever retirement and low-income housing communities.  Today it consists of 80+ churches dispersed throughout Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah.

ABCRM was drawn together and maintains its fellowship by the belief in a common mission to proclaim the Lordship of Jesus Christ through word and deed in the local community, in our nation and around the world.  This is achieved through common ministries like youth and adventure camps, volunteer mission trips, support of local missionaries and through the support of member congregations and their ministries to the local community.  Areas of focus for our common ministry are undergirding the local church,  training and equipping local church leaders and the doing and ongoing support of christian mission.

A part of The American Baptist Churches-USA, ABCRM is a theologically, racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse association of churches committed to the autonomy and freedom of the local church and individual believer to utilize Scripture through the guidance of the Holy Spirit to live out lives of faith as followers of Jesus.

Our Purpose

ABCRM is an association of Empowered Churches who make disciples, prophetically proclaim the Gospel and minister both locally and globally as the hands, feet, and voice of Christ. ABCRM equips leaders for effective mission with ministries that engage the concerns of our congregations in areas of community need, church practice and leadership development.

Focus One:

Identifying, Developing and Supporting Pastors – ABCRM is committed to supporting pastors through coaching, training and providing resources and to identifying and equipping future pastors. Pastoral leaders are a key component to the health and welfare of a local church.

Focus Two:

Assisting Churches to Train and Develop Congregational Leaders – ABCRM is committed to being a resource to pastors and congregations in obtaining and providing quality education for their Christian leaders. A call to lead is accompanied by the need to learn more about leading and leadership in various contexts.

Focus Three:

Helping Churches and Leaders Engage in Mission – ABCRM is committed to the historic purpose of sharing the Gospel into all the world.  We obtain a larger picture of God’s love and God’s purpose for our lives by helping leaders and congregations experience this “mission” personally, whether it be through visits of missionaries and leaders from various mission fields or by participating as a short-term volunteer missionary.

Focus Four:

Supporting Churches in Various Stages of Life Cycle – ABCRM is committed to supporting the local church from plant to legacy with appropriate coaching, connections, resources and programming.  Churches at different stages of congregational life have different needs and leadership sometimes has trouble adjusting to new stages.
