So Many Changes in Our Lives
While visiting with our son and his family in Texas, we were ushered by our granddaughters into their rooms to see some of their toys. We were shown their Polly Pockets, Webkinz and Littlekinz, Littlest Pet Shop Critters, Bratz and Kidsbratz. I later watched Miss Madison visit Barbie.com, where you can go to Home, Bedroom, Closet, Garden, TV Studio, Game Room or Mall. You can dress someone—complete with makeup. I also watched Lauren visit webkinz.com to register a new pet and also to feed it. Later for snacks they had Fun Dip and the next day Gogurt. And I have not even talked about technology. The girls each have their own IPod Shuffles and in the family car there is a built in DVD player with a pull down screen. We spent some time experiencing a virtual ride on an ATV via their PlayStation. I am sending this article from my laptop with a wireless connection to the internet.
There are so many new things available for kids (and parents), so many things that were not available when our son and daughter were kids and certainly more things then were available when we were kids. Yes, indeed; there have been so many changes in so many things in our lifetimes!
But the Good News is that God never changes, as stated in James 1: 17, “Every good and perfect gift is from God. It comes down from the Father. He created the heavenly lights. He does not change like the shadows that move” (NIRV Kids Quest Bible by Zondervan). God has not changed since the beginning. God’s expectations are the same as they were when God created us: that we love God just as God loves us and that we love each other.
On Sunday, we took the girls to the Woodlands United Methodist Church to be with their church family. The pastor talked about SOAP: Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer.
• Scripture: we need to find ways to read, study, and absorb it more often and in more efficient ways.
• Observation: we need to not only observe scripture, but also to let it observe us. She referred to Hebrews 4: 11-12.
• Application: we all know how easy it is to study and even memorize scripture, but we also know how hard it is to apply it!
• Prayer: since it is so difficult to apply/live scripture, then we obviously need God's help. So we need to ask God for help through prayer. It is so comforting to know that we can to that at any time, from any place, for any reason. God hears us and answers according to God’s plan.
What a blessing it was to be in Texas and be awakened by our granddaughters on the morning after our arrival and each morning thereafter!
Prayer: Thank You, Heavenly Father, for my blood families and my "saved by the blood of Jesus FBC/GJ family” and all my ABCRM relatives! Amen.
