WE HAVE A CHOICE!

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” Genesis 3:6

As I contemplate the state of ABCRM and of our churches, I am very concerned for our future. I am convinced that if each of us were truly seeking God’s will and not our own desires we would not have the turmoil we have been experiencing.

Let us look at ourselves and our part in the turmoil. Are my motives pure? Are my statements honest? Are my conversations hurtful or helpful? Are my decisions self serving or God serving? God has given us the responsibility of choice.

Adam and Eve made the choice to eat of the forbidden tree. Abraham and Sara chose to hurry God. Jesus made the choice to leave heaven and come to earth. Jewish leaders made the choice to crucify Jesus. The mob made the choice to shout, “Crucify Him”. Jesus made the decision to die on that cross. All of these choices affect the human race to this day.

Early American patriots made sacrificial choices for our nation. We make choices when we vote. We choose to accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord.

Children mature and learn to make choices. The maturing process is learning to take responsibility for their choices. This is very hard in the teenage years. Many of us remember. Hopefully, we learn to make wiser choices as we grow older. Are we mature yet?

Many stories have come out of the Nazi concentration camps. It was an evil choice to put people in those camps. Corrie Ten Boom chose how to react to her situation. She shared the pages of her Bible. She shared her faith. God protected her. Many years later, as Corrie was sharing her experiences with a large group, a man approached her. She remembered him as one of the guards from the concentration camp that was particularly cruel. She refused to talk to him. She realized she had never forgiven him for his cruelty. Then an amazing thing happened, Corrie chose to talk to him. She learned that he had become a Christian and was asking for her forgiveness. She finally made the choice to forgive him. Doing so gave her tremendous peace. Her talks became more God centered.

Our choices affect our churches and our Region. The way we choose to treat members of our church and first time worshipers has an affect on the entire church body. The way we choose to treat our pastor and other leaders has an affect on the health of our church.

We all have choices. We can choose to be God led. We can choose to be Christ like. We can choose to stand up and be counted. We can choose to address issues that need to be addressed or we can choose to sit on our hands and let Satan have control.

Who do you choose to follow? God or Satan?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for your Son who chose to die for my sins. Thank you for the gift and responsibility of choice. Please guide me in my daily choices. Help me listen to your prompting. Help me live according to your will. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
