"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV).
I remember when the doctor told our family that my mother had terminal cancer. Despite our strong faith and her assurance of her relationship with the Lord, it was an awful moment for all of us. And yet, in that same moment, we were assured of the strength of God's spirit within us.
First, we were reminded that God promises never to give us burdens greater than God will help us bear. Second, we were reminded that God is the One who cares for us and uses stressful situations to strengthen our faith and bring us closer to God. Finally, we are reminded that by Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have life everlasting.
God wants us to trust with our entire life. The cross shows us God’s love. God alone is strong and faithful. The Holy Spirit gives us strength, comfort, and renewal within. Praise be to God!
Prayer: Almighty God, and faithful Lord, help me to rely on You as the Source of my strength. In the name of Christ, I pray. Amen.
