The Way to the Cross

Lent can mean many things to many people. This can be a time of confession and renewal. Many give up personal pleasures for Lent, some fast, some add scripture reading or more reflection time during Lent. What touched me several years ago is to add something during Lent. I have always been in awe at the cross and take this time to reflect on how Jesus prepared to go the cross for me. Do I see his grace and mercy, as well as feel the hope and trust in Jesus Christ?

Hebrews 12:2 “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning the shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

As we prepare this week for the gift of the cross is there something in our lives that we need to take to the cross? Here are a few ideas to get us thinking: Is there a burden that is dragging us down that needs to be finally given to God? Is there a sin that needs to be forgiven and a commitment to keep that sin out of our lives? Is there a person in our lives that needs us to be loving and Christ like, even when it’s difficult? Are we being obedient and using our spiritual gifts for God’s purpose and glory? Do we honor our parents and raise our children as God taught us? Are we supporting our church in prayer for the leaders, financially, as well as serving where we are led? What are we doing to feed our faith journey?

How awesome and powerful can this be. Find your way to the cross with what is on your heart, talk it out with our Savior, get the direction, make the commitment, or leave what needs to be left there for Him....but most importantly, find your way to the cross.

Prayer: As we reflect on the cross and come to glorify you Lord Jesus, lay on our hearts what needs our attention and your guidance. Then give us the strength, humble our hearts and make us like children coming to our Father. Let us make our way to the cross to make a new commitment in our lives and continue on our journey all in your name. Amen.
