“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” - Matthew 28:19, 20a
I’ve been thinking about goals lately. Olympic ice skaters race for the goal line. People work many years for retirement. Dieters aim to lose weight. Students study for years to reach graduation day.
Have you seen skaters skate their hearts out only to let up just before reaching the goal line and lose the race? We watch as the skater who won had her eye on a point beyond the goal line.
How many times have we heard a person say, “I can’t wait until I retire?” Is their plan to just stop, sit in the chair and vegetate? Or is there a plan beyond retirement?
Many of us have tried dieting. I say tried because few are successful. The successful dieters are those who have a life plan for AFTER the diet.
Students work toward graduation. The question we all want answered is, “what are you going to do after graduation?”
Colorado American Baptist Women invite you to Conference June 11, 12, and 13th. You’ll enjoy Vicki Goff from National Ministries who will be our main speaker. Ray Schellinger, missionary in Tijuana working with the Deborah’s House shelter, will share his experiences. This is a wonderful goal but if we stop with a great conference we have missed the point. A good conference is one which affects the lives of the person long after the conference.
Our Conference Theme is “Women…Destined for God’s Purpose”. Our hosts are the wonderful members of Sterling First Baptist Church. Your goal, if you accept it, is to fellowship, find renewal and to be challenged to find God’s purpose for your life. The Registration Form is available on the ABCRM Web site.
Then I think about our churches. The great Commission tells us to “Go and make disciples”. It does not tell us to win souls to Jesus and stop. We are commanded to make disciples. Too often we stop with the goal of winning a person to Christ and forget about teaching them to be disciples. I wonder how Jesus feels about that.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be “God” sighted, looking beyond my own goals to Your goals for my life. Help me to be patient as I seek your will in my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
