September 16-18, 2008

Franciscan Retreat Center

Colorado Springs, CO

Who are the SoulJourners?
Life is a journey to be lived with mind, heart and soul. As we mature in our journey we become storehouses of wisdom and truth, as well as a degree of wealth. The SoulJourners Retreat (formerly the Senior Adult Conference) gives folks who are 55 years plus time together to reflect, grow, befriend, renew and seek God.

2008 Retreat Theme:
     “UNITY IN DIVERSITY”

Many forms of diversity exist in our world today. Differences of race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, and culture can serve to divide peoples. Our challenge as Christians is to honor our diversity while maintaining “the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” At the SoulJourners’ Conference, we will examine our unity in light of ethnic and religious diversity.

Theme Scripture:
"I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all."

-Eph. 4:1-6, NRSV

John Pipe will again bring his musical talents and enthusiasm to lead us in lifting our voices in song and our hearts in praise.

Speakers:

The Rev. Dr. James Peters is the retired senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church and serves on the Policy Board of ABCRM, the General Board of ABC-USA, and the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board. While in college and seminary he was involved in the Civil Rights movement and worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We look forward to his time with us as he leads us in the biblical exploration of our theme.

Mr. Walt White has had a long involvement in the Muslim world, beginning with study in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1972-73. He is part of the team of Global Consultants of International Ministries. He and his wife, Jeanine, and family lived in Bangladesh from 1977 to 1989, and Thailand from 1989 to 1993. Walt has ongoing involvement in Bangladesh in village development projects.

Daryl J. Walker is Minister of Music at New Hope Baptist Church and a very creative musician who will lead the worship times at the conference.

Come and invite all your friends to be inspired, rejuvenated, supported in your faith journey and renewedfor your Christian walk.
