Moab Church Celebrates 100 Years of Ministry

The Community Church of Moab, Utah is now officially 100 years old. The church family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of their friends and colleagues for your prayers and kind remembrances during their centennial year.

The church celebrated initially in March with a special worship service marking the month in which the church was chartered. After the church service all enjoyed a catered dinner.

The "big celebration" took place on the weekend of June 25th and 26th.

The weekend began with a breakfast served by the local Lions Club. Many old friends and community people enjoyed that time of reunion. All who have a history with the church took delight in seeing the old records and scrapbooks. Some special friends produced pictures and a video of the 75th anniversary. It was a big hit with all who viewed it.

That Saturday night 400 people joined together at the high school auditorium for a concert with noted songwriter and singer, Mark Schultz. The concert was a great success, and represented the church’s gift to the Christian community of Moab.

Generations participated in Sunday’s worship service. Afterward, everyone posed for a group portrait that now hangs in a prominent place in the church facility.

Sunday afternoon the congregation concluded their festivities with a picnic in the park. A highlight of the afternoon fun was a puppet show written and performed by a former member, Montez Warner and her family, from First Baptist Church of Grand Junction, CO. The puppet show was based on the church’s name changes over the years and the need to move ahead.

Pastor Keith VanArsdol sums it up by saying, "We here in Moab are grateful for God’s faithfulness to us. We look together toward the future and our next 100 years together."
