Life in the Pulpit
My Mother in law made the transition from earth and her mortal body to her spiritual body in the presence of her Lord and Savior only a few days ago. She was 90 and so it was somewhat expected and yet death never really is expected. I met her when I was about 10. She was always larger than life. She had four sons and a fifth was on the way. She and her children moved into my parents' "Y'all Come" Mobile Home park. Her mother moved with her and cared for her sons while she attended the University of Wyoming. She was beautiful and sang so beautifully. I wanted to be like her.
One day the children, hers and my mothers were playing in the yard and she and my mother were watching from the picture window of our trailer when she remarked to my mother "Wouldn't it be something if our children grew up and got married?" She was probably talking about my sister who was the same age as her oldest son and very beautiful, but years later and many moves and changes, her prophecy became reality when I married her oldest son.
I've been married to her son now for 50 years and I knew her about 12 years before her prophecy became a reality. We all went to the Southern Baptist Church in Laramie and her dad had pastored the First Baptist Church in Laramie before becoming the Baptist State Evangelist. My parents had started the southern Baptist Church later called Trinity Baptist when we came to Laramie in 1955.
When I think about how God patiently wove the life, footsteps and words, Jesus would live out by prophesying through men who were moved along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21) and wrote those words through so many different individuals to the end that a young woman responded to an angelic visitation by saying "Be it done unto me according to y9our words". Jesus said he did not speak his own words but as he heard he spoke and the things he did were directly attributable to the works his father did. Jesus lived all the words spoken by Isaiah in chapter 58 but especially verse 13 "not speaking thine own words"
Jesus lived the words of the Old Testament including Psalm 22 which he appeared to be quoting from the cross.
Will our words be eternal words of prophecy regarding those we speak to or about? It was said of Samuel that God did not let even one of his words fall to the ground. (1 Samuel 3:19) Words are the medium of creation (John 1:1 - 3). We will be judged by our words (Mathew 12: 35 - 37)
