The Front Range Camping program experienced another great summer in 2010. We saw many familiar faces return and many new faces among the campers and the staff.
The theme for 2010 was “Unplugged.” In an age when our children and youth are “plugged in” around the clock with cell phones, video games, television, Facebook, etc, FRC decided it was time to help the youth get “unplugged” so they could plug into Jesus. Like all of ABCRM camps, FRC campers studied God’s word, sang until their voices were whispers, enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation, and developed lifelong friendships. Many campers reported a first time commitment to follow Jesus; others renewed their relationship with Christ.
Each summer, FRC does “camp in a box.” We loaded up our supplies in the trailer and drove to Quaker Ridge Camp near Woodland Park, CO. We are blessed by the great staff and facilities at Quaker Ridge (though the Junior High boys might argue with this). The campers get to ride horseback, go to the shooting range, go down the slide, climb the Giant’s Ladder, and many more activities. This year we added a giant “blowup” slide that was loaned to us by Pastor Charlie Clark.
Front Range Camping experienced another year of growth. FRC provides three “camps:” Elementary, Middle School, and High School all the same week. This year we had 151 campers! Our first summer to move to Quaker Ridge from Black Forest, we only had 78 campers. This was up 23 campers from last year. Much of the increased attendance was due to a renewed commitment to church visits. Bill and Sylvia Hale visited a number of congregations. Aurora Hills and FBC Sterling returned to FR Camping after a number of years. Welcome back!!!
We also had our largest staff ever. We had over 50 volunteers. New staff included Pastor Charlie and Jackie Clark (Aurora Hills) who served with the Elementary camp. Zac Clark and the Worship Band from AHBC provided music for the Elementary Camp. Pastor Joe Greemore from Calvary Denver served as camp pastor for the High School camp. Rev. Bill Wolfe (Highland Park, Colorado Springs) returned as the Middle School pastor. Char Wells (Greeley) and Robin Tadie (FBC, Colorado Springs) served as the co-coordinators for Elementary Camp. Pam Mollenkamp (Highland Park) and Andy Lundblad (Greeley) served as Middle School coordinators. Casey Blanchette (Highland Park) served as High School Coordinator. Rev. Bill Johnson (Ecumenical, Pueblo West), Dulce Garcia (FBC, Colorado Springs), and Rev. Bill Prather (ABC Fort Collins) also were loaned to Front Range Camping by their churches. Bill and Sylvia Hale returned as “Camp Directors.” Way to go staff, you are the best.
The Front Range Camping program will return to Quaker Ridge in 2011, July 17-23. The theme will be StaySTRONG! In 2011, we are hoping to borrow three or four camper trailers for adult staff to enable more campers to attend FRC. If you could loan us your camper for a week, contact Mike Oldham at moldham@abcrm.org.
