Heaven’s Answer During Seasons of Doubt

“I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord, and He inclined to me and heard my cry…..Blessed-happy, fortunate (to be envied)-is the man who makes the Lord his refuge and trust, and turns not to the proud or to followers of false gods.” (Ps. 40:1 and 4) (Amplified Version)

There are times in life and faith that we want to know what we will encounter over life’s uneven journey. And even more, when the trials of life and faith come before us, we want to know that our faith in Jesus Christ will enable us to match each confrontation. That’s just part of the DNA of our humanity. In Ps. 40:1-5, David gives us the answer for addressing these and other questions that may stir our heart, mind and soul as we seek to follow the Lord during seasons of uncertainty.

Scripture does not say what was troubling David’s heart. However, it does say that whatever was troubling David’s heart, he met his problem with a deep and abiding faith in God. Through David’s journey of faith with God he cultivated a prayer life through which he knew that God was his shepherd. He knew God cared for him and he approached God’s presence in expected hope. As he walked steadfastly in faith with God, David expected God to show Himself mighty in every trial and situation. In verses 2 and 3, God answers David’s prayers. God delivers him from the “horrible pit”, places him “upon a strong rock” and steadies his feet as David continued to follow Him in faith. God put a “new song” in David’s mouth, a song that would give praise and honor to God, and draw others to join with him in praising and worshipping his God. Wow, what a mighty God we serve!!

David says, “Blessed, happy and fortunate is the person that makes the Lord his refuge and trust.” He goes on to say that, “the mighty works of God are too numerous to count or mention.” The words of David in Ps. 40:1-5 reassures all believers that when we are going through seasons of doubt and uncertainty God is still our strength and refuge. David declares that our God is “the everlasting God”. No situation shall prevail over “Our God”. He says, during times of fear and doubt, all who claims Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior should keep trusting in the power of God in expected hope of what God can and will do about the situation!! (Amen.)

Father God, as we go forward into uncharted days of life and faith, help us to hold fast to our faith in you. In Jesus name we pray. (Amen.)
